Kosher With Jewish Christian Interfaith Wedding

By Michelle Robinson

It is the beginning of a new future together and when making preparations for that special day, it is best not to get too stressed out over it. Jewish Christian Interfaith Wedding is a need in these days and times as intermingling of people of different faiths has become the norm unlike years ago when marriages were arranged between families. Pleasing those guests who will be attending is a matter of course and one should do some research as to what is permissible and what is not.

The meaning of the word kosher is simply put, all those foodstuffs that can be consumed and those that cannot. For instance, meat and milk may not be consumed together and a religious Jew will have to wait six hours as is customary before eating milk after meat. One does not have to delve too deeply into this but must be aware of some of its laws especially should the spouse be a Jew or Jewess.

Fish can be eaten with meat but no dairy products may. It is a simple law which is easily practiced but one needs to make sure that food being served is done so by a kosher caterer that has been certified and accredited to so so by a Beth Din or Court of Law. This court oversees the production of all foods and has a rigorous structure as to what may or not be eaten.

Again, one does not need to worry about this and it is advisable to leave all the preparations to a kosher catering company. Besides this it is well worth the while to get a Rabbi involved to answer any questions that may arise as to the procedure of the wedding. One may want to include a flavour from both faiths and if going the Jewish route, the couple may want to consider incorporating a Chuppah on the occasion.

Then there is the ceremony itself and the procedures that are adhered to even as it would be carried out for Orthodox Jews. Here again it is best to speak to a Rabbi who will be officiating the ceremony as to how it will run. One could include a Chuppah or canopy that is typical of a marriage ceremony and is a beautiful addition to be had.

A Chuppah consists of a prayer shawl strung up by four poles that the couple will stand under. It is a beautiful addition to any wedding and it can be decorated too with flowers and creepers running the length of the four poles. If one is unsure what this actually consists of it may be worthwhile searching it on the Internet to get a better idea.

It can turn out to be a problem free occasion. With right approach all obstacles can be overcome. Keep it kosher.

There is not much else to worry about. Keeping it kosher does not have to be a burdensome chore and is quite easily affected by the right caterer for the job. It is a day of memories and with a little preparation, it can be just that.
