Getting To Grips With Back To Basics Parenting

By Barbara Rogers

Over the years, parents have become muddled with various approaches on child rearing. There are psychologists and doctors who will tell you one thing, while someone else may tell you another thing. Back to basics parenting may be something to think of when confronting by the large array of self help books on the shelf.

In the past families would sit around the dinner table, and they would have time for one another. They would do something together on the weekends and they would enjoy more quality time together. However, one has a lot of challenges to face, with the likes of technology and the media. Kids are exposed to computers, tablets and cell phones from an early age.

Children will watch a lot of television. Often, kids will be unsupervised, watching television which is not appropriate for them. This becomes more of a challenge. The media can influence their lives. This has been proven to be true with the amount of violence that one is exposed to. A lot more children are aggressive and abusive in school.

Parents are not always sure how to handle this, since many parents also have busy lives to lead. They will worry about their children, but they will also worry about their finances. They feel that it is important to provide for their future. However, when parents are out all the time, children become neglected. They drift apart and they basically don't have a relationship anymore.

Because of technology and the media, more families are drifting apart these days. Families don't sit around the dinner table and enjoy a meal together. Parents are on the rush and don't have time for their kids. They may not even be able to read them a bed time story. Parents feel that they have to provide for their kids, but giving them attention is probably more important than any material possession.

Children also need to be developing from early on in life, by playing, being creative and listening to stories. Parents need to encourage this. By working with them, children will develop a deeper bond with their parents. It can be a nice idea to spend some time with the child reading a story to them before they go to sleep.

When you have a good relationship with your kids, it means you will be able to start them off with a good set of morals early on. They will be able to learn from you instead of learning from their friends. They may pick something up from school, but it is you that they come back to and this is the person that they will look up to.

Having a home that is free from stress, will help a child grow into a healthy adult. Someone who is brought up in a stressful environment will have to deal with a lot of excess emotional baggage later on in life. One will be surprised what simple arguments between parents can do to a child who is trying to develop. It can be hugely traumatic for a child
