Some Common Divisions Of The Auditorium Seating

By Jerri Perry

The choice of seat in an auditorium room would determine the ticket price, pleasure and your exposure to the entertainers. Different theaters would have various levels of seat arrangement which would depend on the hall size and shape. Larger stage rooms would have extra levels while smaller theaters would have tiny seat arrangement. However, despite the hall size or shape, each theater would have a specific auditorium seating plan.

The initial seating division in an auditorium room is the orchestra which features the proscenium arch. Here, the pattern of seats depends on the visual axis and proximity. The orchestra is also divided into sections, prime orchestra being the seats on forefront, following the side orchestra chairs and finally rear chairs. The main seats used in orchestra are upholstered, fixed and fold-up.

The orchestra section is enclosed by the box seats. These seats are divided using curtains or walls. In most theaters, the box chairs are placed on a raised podium to allow each person within the box level to have complete exposure to the performers and their performing. The audience accommodating these seats pays cheaper as compared to the ones in the orchestra.

Mezzanine seats follow the box seats at the upper area of the orchestra. The divisions in the mezzanine vary from the front seats to the left and right chairs. When sitting on the front area, you can completely view the arena as compared to when sitting in the left or right chairs. The problem with these chairs is that, even when sitting at the front area you would not get full exposure to the arena.

Gallery seats are placed at the top and last division within a theater. The audience in the gallery seats is not exposed to complete view of the stage though their tickets are offered at lower prices. When buying the gallery chairs, it is always essential to remember that the audience here is barely exposed to a partial view of the stage.

The seat pattern in thrust arenas is mostly a three side fashion. In order to increase visibility, the chairs here would be raked collectively. When buying tickets in thrust theaters, you should sit on upholstered seat, fold-up or even fixed seats.

The configuration of seats on a circular stage would vary greatly as compared to other types of arenas. Circular seating configurations ensure the seats encircle the arena and the stage is raised above the viewers to enhance visibility. The seats used in circular arena would depend on the desires of the theater owner and the designer.

It would be always hard to tell of certain auditorium seats until you sit on them to watch certain plays. You should for this reason know what you want on an auditorium seating chart before you decide to buy certain stage tickets. It is required you conduct a thorough research concerning the type of arena you are planning to buy tickets from to ensure you can choose the best seats.
