Things You Need To Know About Green Booklet Printing

By Melissa Meyer

Making printed materials has come a long way from its beginning, which used many kinds of materials and processes now considered unhealthy, unclean and toxic. The change did not come until the latter half of the 20th century. Before that, printers worked in potentially harmful conditions that also gave impetus for saner health standards for industry in general.

However, the printing industry has led the many relevant changes that were more environmentally conscious and safe for all people concerned. These have given the opportunity for safer processes and materials used for green booklet printing. But then, there is a need to look back on how these changes came about.

The time of very basic and harmful technology was created for the purposes of making money for financial or industrial barons. The thing was not about the discovery of safer methods, but some apologists say how progress could not have been made if the fundamental techniques were not started. This did not convince people of the wrongness of what has happened, and therefore led to change.

A few decades following, the beginnings of industry are now seen as the culprit of many things. Printing became safer only through legislation and now the industry machines are lighter and less inefficient. The more progressive things now are for machines that are less gargantuan and very much more efficient.

The giant setups used huge amounts of electricity or gas to run, and the were touted as advanced technology then. Today, people have been awakened to the fact of how harmful they really were. It took many kinds of injuries to labor and many picket lines against companies before change could come.

Minus the movement advocating the changes for better labor practice and safer factories, most industries would still be using foul technologies. Much litigation and even bloodshed occurred before governments would budge from their support of industry. When they did, it may have already been too late for everyone concerned, including the barons.

Exposure to risk is no longer an entrenched measure for printing, what with the use of responsible paper and safer inks. Responsible paper is often 100 percent recycled, free of acid, and other toxic chemicals like chlorine. Inks are often vegetable based, with chemicals colors that will not harm the environment.

Green booklets are not made through the offset system, which requires a minimum number of, say, at least 5,000 so that the preparatory spends can be recouped. They use the services of digital processes, which is a truly high tech process that use complicated electronics and machines. However, the problems related to earlier eras are not found in them at all.

The printers who still practice primitive processes are all being investigated by the WHO or World Health Organization. They must have realized the changes but will not do them because of the so called prohibitive costs. When governments and their enforcing organizations started turning up the pressure, these people had to submit or pay the price or nullity in a highly competitive environment that has also become that much safer for people.
