The Best Option For Bathtub Refinishing

By Gregory Baker

If your bath tub started to look terribly, it's time to do something about it. New tubs can be bought cheaply, and this might be the first option to consider. Unfortunately, this particular option has some other costs you need to be aware of. You have to hire someone to remove the old tub, to install a new one, to take care of plumbing etc. Another option is relining, although it's not really cheap at all. The best solution is professional bathtub refinishing.

As with all other similar works, it all starts with choosing a good service. There will be no hidden costs, because there will be no nee for replacing or moving anything. Everything will be done in your bathroom, there will be no damages, and the price will be set in front, after the initial inspection. This price will depend on the amount of the repairs needed.

When everything will be arranged, the works will start. First, everything has to be cleaned, all surrounded surfaces protected and all features temporarily removed. The ventilation should be set to vent. The first stage is sanding. This will remove imperfections and prepare the surface for spray-painting. Acid etching is sometimes required as well.

After this initial sanding, the technician will inspect your tub for minor imperfections and damages, and remove or repair all of them. After that, another sanding is needed. The first few layers of spray-paint will serve as a primer. Everything should be dry before spraying on additional maybe four thin layers of paint. Sometimes, another layer is applied after a day or two, but most contractors don't do it.

The costs of refinishing your old tub are significantly lower than replacing it. There is even cheaper option for those of you who believe in DIY. This works only if you already possess all professional equipment needed for this particular work, including a good paint sprayer, sanding machine etc. If not, you simply cannot get the equal result.

First, if you don't have professional equipment, it's really hard to get the professional results. Although it is possible to buy a tub refinishing kit, it doesn't include, for example, a paint sprayer. It is really hard to apply evenly any type of a coating using brush or roller, because in this case you are not dealing with perfectly smooth flat surface. Spray-painted surfaces look so much better.

When it comes to different surface repairs, even the smallest ones, the materials you can buy won't be so good, and you are simply not experienced enough to do this perfectly. And when you consider all different things that you have to buy, your costs will get higher in no time at all. You won't need all this material, but you have no other option.

In the end, the paint could still peel off much sooner than you think. It would be better to get some kind of a guarantee for a job well done, not to mention all the time and effort you would have to invest as well. Leave professional jobs to professionals, and sleep well. Your bathroom can be perfect again.
