Spectacles & The Important Details A Long Island Advertising Agency Can Provide

By Paula Hess

If you haven't heard of Spectacles, chances are that you weren't the only one. Unveiled by Snapchat, this was the social media company's first foray into the hardware market. Spectacles, on the surface, appear to be simple sunglasses. However, they can be used to record videos before they're shared to Snapchat. Growth of said hardware has been slow, however. Here is what you should know, courtesy of Long Island advertising agencies.

While Spectacles had limited availability to begin with, these sunglasses would soon become available to a bigger market. Despite this brave move, it failed to live up to its potential, as the demand didn't meet the increased supply. Many units were left unsold, as the likes of fishbat can attest. One could argue that this is mostly due to price, but Long Island advertising agencies across the board may be able to note other factors as well.

While of Spectacles may not have grown to the degree that Snapchat might have wanted, the concept behind this technology stands out. The idea of recording video content with your own sunglasses sounds like something out of an action movie. However, as technology grows, many products that seem to only exist in fantasy will become real. If you'd like an example of this, you needn't look further than Spectacles.

Now that you have a general understanding of Spectacles, as a product, what could be done to improve its sales in the long term? Perhaps greater awareness through solid marketing could help, but this may not be enough. Maybe Snapchat could lower the price of the Spectacles so that they're a better impulse buy option. These are just a few ideas, but whether or not these will yield legitimate results is up in the air.

Keep in mind that despite Spectacles' slow growth, Snapchat remains a popular name on the social media front. It's an easy app to get into, whether you're more of a fan of recording or receiving video content. Snapchat made the jump into the hardware market and, in the eyes of many, fell short. Even if Spectacles fades away, it's safe to say that it will be remembered as a relatively clever effort to expand social media outside of the Internet.
