A Vacationer's Guide to Choosing Cabins in the Poconos

By Stephanie Williams

Vacations can be fun and exciting. If you want to get away from it all and are looking for alternatives to huge, impersonal resorts, cabins in the Poconos and other rustic accommodations may be just what you are looking for. If you think that a cabin may be what you have been looking for, here are some things to think about when booking your next holiday.

Before you look, it is important to know what your budget is going to be. Some options will be more expensive than others and if you have a dollar figure that you can afford to pay you will be able to narrow down your choices. You will also find that if you try and travel during this busy season that you will either need to book further in advance or you may be limited in your choice of accommodations.

During summer months, there are often a large number of activities that are available to guests who are staying in the area. Tourists will often flock to the area in larger numbers and will cause rooms and cabins to book up more quickly. There will also often be surcharges or extra fees that are added on to the price of cabins so if you are working with a tighter budget you will need to pay attention to when it is cheaper to travel.

Another thing to think about is how secluded you want to be. Some cabins are located in more remote areas while others are closer to different attractions and amenities. If you know that there is a specific area you want to stay in, you may want to start your search there and work further afield if nothing appeals to you.

One thing that you do need to consider is how much space your group will need. A couple or a smaller group can often make do with a couple of bedrooms and a smaller amount of living space. Larger groups will need to have more room so that different people can do various things at the same time. This is especially important if you are traveling at a time when the weather may not be as warm or dry as you would like it to be.

Some cabins provide housekeeping services. If you are staying in one that is on the grounds of a resort you may also be able to have access to their restaurants or room service. Only you will be able to tell how independent you want to be while you are staying at your vacation home.

The area is marketed as a prime destination spot for couples who are on their honeymoon. If you are recently married and are celebrating with your upcoming trip make sure to mention it when booking a cabin. You may be able to get upgrades or other perks that will make your stay more fun and romantic.

If you start your search early and take your time when looking you will be able to find a cabin that will be perfect for you and your traveling companions. Make sure to look at things such as the amenities and attractions that are located nearby so that you will be in a position to do and see the things you want to.
