One way that a first-person narrative is made more interesting is by breaking up the storytelling into different characters' perspectives. Readers are treated to three highly intriguing female protagonists in The Girl on the Train. This is great for anyone who loves fiction thriller books.

Now that there has been a movie made out of it, Gone Girl has attained more popularity. It still holds up as a great novel with many twists and turns that keep you guessing. One of the interesting aspects of the book is that the reader isn't always sure if the narrator is being truthful.

For those who love whodunit stories but want to see the genre in a more contemporary style and setting, Into the Water is a great book to pick up. The plot is centered around a river in which many local women have drowned. This is one of the thrillers that gets to the reader on a very psychological level since the main character is experiencing a form of amnesia that makes it impossible to form new memories. All that she has to rely on to figure out what has been going on is her own journal, and the more she reads in it, the more she doubts that everything is as it seems.

The Lying Game by Sara Shepard is an interesting tale of deceit. When the protagonist gets caught up in a mischievous game gone awry, things get scary. This is the first book in the Lying Game series.

Out of Australia, Jane Harper is an author who has crafted a book that is mysterious and engaging in her very first work in this genre. The book is called The Dry, and it takes place in an Australian farming town of Harper's own invention. The plot is focused on the big secrets and conspiracies hidden in this seemingly innocent small town, as uncovered by a federal agent who has returned to his hometown for the funeral of a friend.
