When one thinks of Woodstock in the United States, images of hippies dancing about to Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens arise. You think of mud and young people covered in this as they slide around before they reach for the sky, celebrating freedom. However, there is a lot more to know about the area. With a Woodstock NY travel guide, you can get a lot out of this beautiful part of New York.

Many people are surprised that the area is not just about the festival dating back to the late sixties. There is so much more to this beautiful area than this. You can find out about a couple of trails heading into the mountains. If you want to explore your spiritual side, you may want to take a walk to the monastery. Many people come here just to spend time here.

You are surrounded by nature with many exciting trails where you can go hiking. There are some great spas where you can get away from everything and escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and the office environment. It is great to be able to talk to the folk here about their lives. Not everyone here are aged hippies.

Of course, there are bigger concerts organized for well known artists as well. This is something well worth seeing. You can make a vacation of it as well. Once you have been to the concert, you can take a day to stroll around Tinker street and buy yourself a souvenir. You can then take a walk on one of the trails or simply go and listen to a musician strumming away at one of the bars.

Don't miss out on the center for photography. This is a gallery which is in fact nonprofit. There are many speakers who come here on a regular basis. It is a good idea to plan your trip based on the speaker who comes here during the year because it can be worth your while. Back in the day, musicians such as Bob Dylan and Joan Baez used to perform here.

If you are looking for a couple of Bohemian spots to hang out, then this would be Tinker street. You can find many homemade products here. The original sellers usually have their own stores here. It is not commercialized. People are always friendly so it is an experience, even if you are going for a stroll.

For many people who have not been to Woodstock, they simply love to people watch. The best thing is to go to a local restaurant. You will see some of the hippies serving proper comfort food. Of course, this is not gourmet style. There are a few of these restaurants available as well. But it is always a nice idea to be able to live like a local and get an idea of what it was like to live at this time.

Most people drive here. However, you can also catch a bus here. You can hire a bike and get around the town on your own. It is small, so you don't need a car. Bethel is the place where the festival took place. It is a kilometer away from the town. This gives you some idea of the distances.
