The Benefits Of A Bed And Breakfast

By Joseph Tranturder

I recently got engaged and have been planning the wedding and all that entails. One particular part that was left to me was the honeymoon plans. My fianc and I opted for something smaller and more secluded rather than fun, touristy area. As I have been visiting different sites (over three dozen now) I have perused the different options and one thing that peaked my curiosity are bed and breakfasts. Why you may ask, well let me tell you. Here's a list of some of the benefits offered by a Bed and Breakfast

1. Space and Privacy As I have said, privacy was one thing that I was looking for on my honeymoon but you don't need to be getting married to want your space. If you are staying at a B&B you will notice that the rooms are comparatively larger, the hallways less crowded, and the guests fewer. Definitely the opposite of a hotel.

The will come close to filling every room however, it means there will be a number of individuals who don't have a hotel room that they booked. Along with overbooking there are also unforeseen circumstances that may arrive like flooding in a floor or rooms being destroyed by previous guests that make it impossible to ready rooms for incoming guests. Overbooking and other unexpected incidents will cause a shortage of rooms What to Expect When You are Walked When a hotel walks you there are several things that you can expect.

The hotel must find you another place to stay that is comparable to your original booking. They are required to give you a free phone call (although with everyone having cellphones seems rather unnecessary). Also, if it is needed the hotel is required that you receive transportation to you're the new hotel. Avoid Getting Walked Now that you know there will be a shortage of rooms the next question is how to avoid being the individual who is walked.

1. Come early - Individuals who come early are most likely to receive the room. If you are arriving late in the evening there is a good chance that all of the rooms have been filled. If you are afraid you may be walked make sure to arrive in the morning or early afternoon.

2. Avoid One Night stays if possible because you will among the first to be walked.

4. The Story this one may be more for my fianc than for me but when you arrive at a Bed and Breakfast you arrive at a chunk of history. The house may have been built years ago and hosted different families for decades. If this is your thing as the owner and they will gladly tell you what the house and land mean to them. Sure beats the about page on a hotel website.

5. Extra Activities Along with your hotel stay come a number of other perks you can participate in. Depending on your location these may come with the package or you may have to shell out a few extra but they can be worth it. A few of the locations I was looking at online included horseback riding, boat rentals, and outdoor theatres. Even if you are on a business trip your stay can be a mini vacation, make sure to check out the activities offered.

5. Be a Regular - If you are a business traveler this one may be easy. Hotels hope to encourage repeat purchases and will avoid walking their most valuable members. If you have a choice, stick with one hotel that you visit every time you come to the area. If you are not a regular try to appear to be one. Join the hotel's loyalty program.

This is not much but at least it is something to differentiate you from the other hotel guests. Being a member is very valuable in smaller hotels like Hotel Zero a boutique hotel in Norwalk, CT. The hotel may not have a choice to walking you at times but a nice feature about being a valued customer is that the hotel may walk you in advance allowing you to change your plans before you arrive.
