Bus Wraps & Going Electronic In Gainesville

By Robert Sutter

When it comes to bus wraps and billboards, it goes without saying that there are various methods of marketing that companies can benefit from. They have proven themselves to be effective as well, which means that they have more than stood the test of time. However, it seems as though the city of Gainesville is about to incorporate electronic billboards for companies to benefit from. This was something that I was not aware of until I came across a recent article that spoke about it in detail.

According to the Gainesville Times, it's possible that the city will allow electronic billboards within the city limits. Real estate representative Tim Hill commented on the matter, stating that each billboard could show up to six different advertisements, provided this potential rule goes through. Seeing as how every ad would, in theory, be given ten seconds before flipping to the next, it appears as though every company will have a fair shot at appealing to the masses. One of the concerns that were mentioned, though, was distraction.

It's clear that electronic billboards can come into play but one of the concerns listed in article had to do with the way in which drivers would be affected. Certain marketing methods are less distracting than others, as I am sure that authorities the likes of JMR Graphics would be able to tell you about. Bus wraps are pretty common, as they are prominent, but one of the potential cons of digital billboards is that they could be prominent to a fault. As a result, the way in which these billboards are constructed must be done with care.

First of all, the billboards have to be managed in terms of how bright they are. It's understandable that the billboards in question will stand out more during the evening, as there is less in the way of natural light, but do they necessarily need that same level of brightness during the daytime? However, the article mentioned that, thanks to new technology, this isn't so much of a concern as it might have been in the past. Advancements have been able to make this a possibility.

Aside from advertising, it appears as though billboards can prove to be useful for other reasons. Yes, they will be utilized in order to promote the wares of various companies but is it possible that they can offer urgent news to those on the road? For instance, if there is to be unexpected snowfall during the day, the billboard could shift gears in order to inform people about that. This is just one of the many reasons why Gainesville should take it upon itself to approve this potential movement.
