Using Recycled Tires To Make A Flower Bed

By George Dodson

If you grew up working in your parents garden, you know how much you can save in fruits and vegetables. It is not difficult to do it and not at all costly. There is nothing quite like fresh taste from your own garden. In addition, you can grow your own herbs. Store bought produce cannot be as good as that which you grow fresh from the garden. Added to this is the glow of producing your own food. Finally, you control what goes into it. You know it is fresh, natural, and without preservatives.

You may be someone who would love a garden but doesnt have the room. For that reason, they need an alternative. Planting a garden in a range of small spaces may be an answer. Doing this allows you to harvest a crop and then plant more for later in the season. Old tires are a great way for planting a garden.

Old tires are available free at many outlets. You might them for only $5.00 in other places. On average all you will need is maybe four or five for a good bit of planting. But large installations may require over ten tires.

You might think that these old tires dont look that good. Maybe the neighbors will object? There are ways of dressing them up by covering them with something that looks much better. You can set them in wooden boxes to increase their attractiveness. You can cut them up to form patterns such as pedals on a flower, and paint them on the outside to make them look better. The rims of the tires could be used as a stand.

it is best to pick a place and cultivate the soil by digging down to a depth of 4 inches. You want the roots to extend as far as they need to grow into healthy plants. Get some good potting soil/compost. You can buy this at Home Depot, Lowes or your local hardware store. Make sure you fertilize it properly and then plant your seeds according to the instructions. Dont over water, but do water regularly. The little garden will keep you supplied with all you need. Growing your own produce instead of buying it will save you money.
