Industrial Extension Ladders Are The Choice Of Professionals

By Luisa Sharpe

Getting up higher than a person can reach standing on their own feet is something that needs to happen a good portion of the time. There are many reasons for this and some of the ways people devise to accomplish this are not safe. Ladders come in all sorts and sizes and the one that is used the most, in commercial applications of all kinds, are industrial extension ladders.

Unlike the A frame type ladder, an extension ladder must have something on which to lean for support. Unlike the A frame, this ladder can be made smaller and larger with the use of the extending piece. These ladders come in a number of sizes, materials and configuration for maximum adaptability to just about any job.

Different materials are used to manufacture this type of ladder. Wood, fiberglass as well as aluminum are just a few of these. The heaviest ones are made from wood and they are also prone to rot, breaking and molds if stored improperly. Some people appreciate the natural materials being used and, as such, might be a good pick for them. They are also seen as being painted in various colors to help prevent weather getting to them.

One of the more popular materials for this necessary piece of equipment is aluminum. It has the ability to be immune from rot and molds and can also be carried quite easily because of its light weight. It is as strong as steel and makes for a general purpose ladder where electricity is not concerned.

A ladder that does not need painting is the fiberglass one. This is a light weight ladder and the color pigment is combined with the material that does not tear or crack. Most professional building trades use this as it can be as strong as steel and easy enough to carry and move around.

Fiberglass is the choice of materials for most construction companies and all electricians. This is because fiberglass does not conduct electricity. When working with this dangerous source of energy, it is necessary to prevent damage to people and other things by insulating them from this. This type of ladder can also be painted, however, with nothing to rust or corrode, the dangers of using a paint that may be conducive to electrical charges should be avoided.

What makes an extension ladder extend is the system of pulleys that is incorporated at the top of the ladder. With this system in place, the operator can pull the rope, through the pulley, to bring the other section of ladder up. This other section has arms that swing out and will rest on the rung that is closest to the height the professional needs. This holds the extension at that position until it is lifted off and raised or lowered.

A frames are handy when there is a need for a little height. The extension ladder is available for heights above that and can have safety tie offs for various purposes. Since you should not step on the top two rungs of the average A frame, there is a lot wasted height. These will come in two or three section units with additional sections if needed.
