All You Need To Know About Seawater Hydraulic Fracturing

By Evelyn Walls

The major part of Earth is covered with water. These can be oceans or seas. Below them are various species that are waiting to be discovered. Aside from the living creatures, there are more treasure beneath its floor. Researchers have found out that huge basin of oil reserves and even gas can be unlocked in it.

If you are not familiar with hydraulic fracturing, this is the penetration on the underground to extract oil and even different kinds of gas. Its usually done in freshwater but as the technology gets better, they have tried seawater hydraulic fracturing. Advanced countries have been doing wide research regarding this method.

The major process of hydraulic fracturing is done to get all the necessary oils and gas in the great deep. This will need huge machinery to reach the bottom of the reserve. The pressure to be exerted must be high to keep the elements flowing. For other countries such as Saudi Arabia, this process are taken care well.

There are two industries that can benefit from it. The first one is the oil industry. Many knows that the fuel they use in their car and other machines extracted in the ground. This is the major reason why the prices of oil can go high because its process would really take a long time to used by the citizens. This industry usually do it in freshwater.

The gas industry can also benefit from it. The gas that are extracted underground are usually flammable so extra care is needed. This process is more complicated than the oils. This must be tight and secure since there are not visible with peoples naked eye. Because of these factors, engineers do this in areas wherein theres no people living on it.

Many are wondering if what is the advantage of having the fracturing in seawater. The best thing about it is, no water will surely be wasted. Instead of doing it in freshwater which will be used for drinking, seawater is more easy to waste. The contamination will not be great since it can cover the bigger portion of its body.

Even if there are good things in doing it, engineers still prefer it to be done in freshwater. They say that doing it a place where pH level could be near to average can lessen the effort of extraction. Workers will no longer worry on what will be the effect of water to the operations and most of all, chemical reaction will not be altered.

Another reason is the cost. This kind of process will be more expensive compared to the freshwater method. Because the equipment must be in high quality, the cost will be greater. The chemicals will also be in demand. In the long run, it will not suitable to do with just the extraction process. The value of the labor might be more than the value of profit from it.

Since the technology develops every day, it wont be hard to say that future methods will be used and tools will get better to. If no more means of extraction available, then doing it in the ocean will surely be done. More years are yet to come to make it happen.
